The 2004 BMW R1100S, transformed into a café racer, combines classic BMW engineering with a sleek, minimalist design.
With its boxer engine and distinctive lines, it offers a unique mix of performance and style.
Custom modifications, such as a lower stance, retro handlebars, and vintage-inspired bodywork, enhance its racing aesthetic while maintaining its solid, reliable ride.
In the world of Cafe Racers, some bikes may initially seem difficult to imagine as custom-builds, but with creativity, vision, and expertise, any motorcycle can be transformed.
A prime example is the BMW R1100S, which, at first glance, might not seem like an obvious candidate for a BMW Cafe Racer conversion.
However, the team at Fatboy Design in Thailand has demonstrated their skill in turning this "unlikely" bike into an elegant and classic Cafe Racer.
The transformation involved numerous customizations, including:
This build showcases how creativity can breathe new life into an old bike, transforming it into a masterpiece worthy of admiration.
Cosmo Motors (Netherlands) specializes in custom motorcycle styling, particularly in the chopper segment, with a focus on unique designs that highlight each bike's distinctive features.
Founded by a designer with a passion for design and technology, the company has a history of award-winning work with renowned brands like Beta and Yamaha.
Every bike is carefully selected, customized, and maintained to ensure it stands out as a one-of-a-kind creation.
There are no specific descriptions provided by the builder for the list of modifications, but based on our experience, the bike features several custom upgrades.
These include a BMW K75 fuel tank, a modified rear subframe with a flat loop and integrated LED strip, and a café racer seat.
The fairings have been removed, and the frame, swingarm, and engine have been painted black.
A custom 2-into-1 exhaust system has been installed, decatalyzed, with a muffler positioned under the seat.
Additionally, there are clip-on handlebars, an LED headlight, and various other accessories.
Converting a tourer into a café racer is no easy task, given their contrasting characteristics.
Tourers are tall, with high suspension and an upright riding position, while café racers are low, streamlined, and offer an aggressive over-the-tank posture.
However, Argentinian builder Lucas Layum took on this challenge with his ‘Bull’ café racer, a remarkable transformation of a BMW R1100 S.
The frame was dismantled, and Lucas designed a custom trellis frame that drastically changed the bike’s stance.
He replaced the front and rear sections, removing the Telelever suspension and installing Honda CBR1000 USD forks for a more aggressive ride height.
Lucas also hand-crafted the fuel tank and rear cowl from steel, while adding finned side panels for housing the bike's revised electrics and battery.
The front end received a custom asymmetrical cowl with LED lighting, and clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs were added to achieve the desired riding position.
The finishing touches include a custom stainless exhaust, bold Bridgestone tire lettering, and a striking white finish on the frame and bodywork with BMW M performance tri-color stripes, making this café racer a true standout.
