    Installation & Safety Notice — Short Exhaust Tip
    Triumph Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X • Raw or Black Stainless

     

    This slip-on tip replaces the OEM end-can, shortening the exhaust by ≈190 mm and increasing sound level by 3-5 dB(A). Noise / emissions rules differ worldwide — review the table below before using the motorcycle on public roads.

    EU / UK Reg. (EU) 168/2013 Euro 5 + UNECE R41 noise Any exhaust that raises noise > 1 dB over type-approval is not road legal without new EU-type approval (“E-mark”).
    Tip supplied for off-road/show use; MOT/ITV may fail if noise exceeds 99 dB(A).
    Australia / NZ ADR 83/00 stationary noise & ADR 79/04 emissions Stationary noise must stay ≤ 94 dB(A) @ 5000 rpm (+5 dB tolerance).
    Roadworthy inspectors may require OEM muffler or compliance plate.

    Universal Fitting Instructions

    • Loosen OEM end-can clamp (12 mm) & remove rear hanger bolt.
    • Slide stock muffler backward and off the mid-pipe spigot.
    • Install supplied T-bolt clamp & short tip; seat fully against catalytic outlet.
    • Align honeycomb outlet horizontal; torque clamp to 22 N·m (16 lbf·ft).
    • Re-use OEM hanger with provided M8×40 bolt + spacer; torque 25 N·m.
    • Start engine, ensure no leaks (hand around joint) & check clearance ≥ 10 mm to swing-arm at full compression.

    Sound & ECU Notes

    • No ECU flash needed; O2 sensors remain upstream of catalytic converter.
    • If installing a high-flow air filter, an ECU tune is recommended to avoid lean condition.
    • Always repack optional dB-killer every 8 000 km to maintain back-pressure and tone.

     

    ⚠️ Excessive exhaust noise, improper mounting or exhaust leaks can lead to fines, engine damage, or rider fatigue. Install and use at your own risk.
