  • Installation & Safety Notice – Hand-Crafted Short Rear Mudguard for Triumph Bobber

Installation & Safety Notice — Short Aluminum Rear Mudguard
Triumph Bobber 2016-2024 • Version A (simple) or Version B (sculpted)

This artisanal guard replaces the OEM rear fender, giving the bike a true bobber tail. Because it shortens splash coverage, legal and safety checks differ by region—review the table below before riding on public roads.

    Region Key Rules Your Checklist
USA FMVSS 108 lamp / plate visibility + state fender laws Rear lamp, reflector & plate must remain fully visible 20 m to rear.
Some states (WA, OR) require tyre coverage ≥ 15° fwd / 60° rear of vertical—Version B meets this; Version A may not.
Install supplied stick-on red reflector if OEM reflector removed.
EU / UK UNECE R26 projections + MOT Edge radius ≥ 2.5 mm (beaded lip supplied).
Plate must be ≥ 200 mm from ground & 0–30° tilt.
MOT will fail if tyre throws spray straight backwards—Version B recommended for road.
Australia / NZ ADR 42/04 splash suppression Guard must cover tyre over at least 45° rear of vertical.
If shorter, a flexible rubber flap must be added—customer option.
Plate & lamp visibility as per ADR 61/02.

    Universal Fitting Instructions

    • Support rear of bike; remove OEM fender, indicator brackets & plate bracket.
    • Bolt new mudguard to sub-frame stays with supplied M8 stainless bolts; torque 25 N·m (18 lbf·ft).
    • Transfer OEM tail-lamp & plate bracket (or after-market unit) to pre-drilled mounting holes; use thread-locker.
    • Check wheel travel: guard must clear tyre by ≥ 25 mm at full suspension compression.
    • For two-up conversions: ensure passenger seat bracket still latches (Version B only).
    • Re-torque fasteners after first 100 km / 60 mi, then every service.

    Finishing & Care

    • Raw brushed: wipe with light oil or clear-coat to slow oxidation.
    • Polished: use non-acidic aluminium polish; avoid steel wool.
    • Painted: treat as automotive paint; wash with pH-neutral soap.

⚠️ Insufficient clearance, sharp edges or obstructed lamps can cause tyre damage, fines or MOT/inspection failure. Install and use at your own risk.
