    Installation & Safety Notice — Carbon-Fiber Engine Cover
    BMW R 18 (all model-years)

    This genuine carbon-fiber cover is a styling accessory that clips over the original left-side engine housing (front main cover). It does not replace a structural or heat-shield component. Regulations and heat/ clearance rules differ worldwide—consult the table below before road use.

    EU / UK Reg. (EU) 168/2013 (Euro 5) — no emissions change allowed Ensure cover leaves original PCV vent clear.
    Cannot be used with aftermarket open crank-case filters unless certified.
    Australia / NZ ADR 42/04 (general safety) + ADR 79/04 (Euro 5) Cover must not cause oil leaks or overheating; maintain >5 mm gap to exhaust header.
    Use supplied heat-resistant foam pads to avoid abrasion.

    Universal Fitting Instructions

    • Clean OEM engine cover with isopropyl alcohol; let dry.
    • Affix the supplied 3 M™ VHBTM pads to the inside of the carbon part, peel liners, align with BMW logo recess, and press firmly for 30 s.
    • Temperature for bonding: 15 – 30 °C (59 – 86 °F). Avoid riding for 24 h to allow adhesive cure.
    • Maintain a minimum 5 mm clearance from exhaust header; trim pad thickness if necessary.
    • Inspect after the first heat-cycle; re-torque any bolt-on dress caps to 3 N·m (27 lbf·in).

    Maintenance & Heat Limits

    • Carbon epoxy Tg = 120 °C (248 °F). Do not use caustic cleaners or point heat-guns at the surface.
    • If the bike is left idling for extended periods in hot weather, check that surface temperature stays < 100 °C.
    • Clean only with mild soap & water; avoid fuel spills—wipe immediately.

     

    ⚠️ Installing over moving or hot components without the specified clearance can cause adhesive failure, rattling, abrasion of oil lines, or fire hazard. Install and use at your own risk.
